A parts store that knows which BMW you drive
A custom e-commerce storefront and admin for a BMW tuning specialist, with a fitment engine that tells every shopper whether a part fits their car before they add it to the cart.
The problem
ChanceBuilt Performance builds turbocharged BMWs in Riverside, California. Their catalog is deep and specific: a part for an S55 engine does not fit a B58, and a buyer who orders the wrong one costs the shop a return, a phone call, and a bad review. Off-the-shelf store platforms treat every product as a generic SKU. They needed a store that understands engines and chassis.
What we built
- A fitment engine. Shoppers pick their chassis and engine once. From then on every product on the site signals green (fits) or red (does not fit). Colour is used almost nowhere else in the design, so those two states are impossible to miss.
- A custom admin panel with a “quick add by engine” preset. One click marks a part as fitting every chassis that runs a given engine. This is the feature that lets the owner maintain his own catalog without a developer.
- Database-managed photography. Every image slot stores a focal point, so one upload works as a wide banner and a square tile without recropping.
- Stripe checkout, order emails, and roles for owner, staff, and view-only accounts.
Design
Black-and-white photography, sharp corners, a condensed motorsport display face, and a subtle film grain so flat black does not read as dead. The site looks like the shop’s Instagram, not like a template.
Why custom instead of Shopify
Fitment is the hard part of an automotive store, and no plugin handles it well enough to trust with real orders. Owning the code meant the admin could be shaped around the way the owner actually thinks about parts: by engine first, then by chassis.
